MSOT can be deployed in a variety of applications for small animal brain imaging, in vivo and through intact skin and skull.

One prominent example is the use of MSOT in glioblastoma studies: leveraging its high resolution, sensitivity and specificity in resolving molecular probes, and its capability to quantify oxygenation, MSOT can be used to study various parameters related to tumor progression.

MSOT can also be used to evaluate whether pharmacological substances actually pass the blood / brain barrier.
